Curriculum Vitae


Christoph Brech was born in Schweinfurt, Germany in 1964.

After secondary education (Gymnasium, Abitur), he completed an apprenticeship in horticulture. This was followed by 20 months of civil service work.

From 1989 – 1995 he studied painting with Prof. Franz B. Weißhaar at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich.

After obtaining his degree, he was given an assistant teaching position at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste in Munich. He has also lectured at the Université du Québec in Montréal, the Université Laval in Québèc City and the Temple University in Rome.

In 2003 he was invited for a year as artist in residence by the Conseil des Arts et des Lettres du Québec.

Christoph Brech has won major prizes and grants, i.e. the Will Grohmann-Preis (Akademie der Künste Berlin) and the Rome-Prize 2006 (Deutsche Akademie Rom, Villa Massimo).

Christoph Brech currently lives in Munich.
