1-channel sound-installation

Bayerisches Nationalmuseum / temporary exhibition - Überleben

Once every minute a dull mechanical noise resounds from a large megaphone-like speaker resembling an open jaw, as if a heavy mass were briefly set in motion.

The noise is transmitted directly from the tower clock of the Bayerisches Nationalmuseum.

This installation is placed in the center of a room dedicated to the memory of various historic persons, especially members of the House of Wittelsbach.

The harsh grinding of the clock’s mechanism lasts only a second and marks the passage of time with unrelenting unpleasantness, while 59 seconds are stolen as if swallowed by the open jaws of the speaker.

*The title originates from the opera Albert Herring by Benjamin Britten.
