Polizeiinspektion Neubau Kaufbeuren, 2026

Blue Lights
120 blue lights hang from the ceiling of the passageway between the garage and the inner courtyard. The lights are arranged to mimic the course of the Wertach River near Kaufbeuren. To achieve this, the blue lenses (acrylic glass) of the blue lights—some historic, some new—are removed from their original sockets and rotating light sources and mounted upside down over an LED lamp placed in the wooden ceiling. Each light represents one of the police officers working here.
Activated by motion sensors, the lights begin to flash and remain lit for a few minutes. The river of blue lights symbolizes the work of the police officers. They are all connected to one another.

Star

From the garage courtyard, PIKF and KPST vehicles fan out in all directions like the rays of a star to respond to calls.
The actual variety of directions suggested by the star’s 84 rays symbolizes, in a figurative sense, the diversity of the police’s areas of operation.
The white marking paint used to apply the star and coat of arms to the asphalt consists of thermoplastic resin mixed with titanium dioxide (TiO₂) pigments and glass beads.  TiO₂ is one of the brightest substances in the world, and the way it interacts with light means that the color is clearly visible even at night and in bad weather—conditions under which the police must also operate.
From the rooms on the first and second floors, the view no longer looks out onto bare asphalt, but rather onto the star and coat of arms. The garage courtyard has become a distinctive symbol of the PIKF and the KPST.

Blaulichter
